The "FURRY ANGELS" is a local chapter of BRIGHT AND BEAUTIFUL THERAPY DOGS that visit facilities in Monmouth, Ocean, Middlesex and Burlington County. We provide "Read to a Dog" programs at schools and libraries, and we provide comfort to patients in hospitals, long term care and acute care facilities.
Therapy Dog handlers are volunteers who have trained their dogs under the guidance of Sharon Gaboff from ENCHANTED PAWS TRAINING & GROOMING in Freehold. The dog and handler work as a team and are required to pass a test to become certified and insured with BRIGHT & BEAUTIFUL THERAPY DOGS in Morris Plains, NJ.
Therapy dogs and their handlers volunteer in many different places. We have several teams that have been providing volunteer service at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst since 2010. The dogs visit adults and children at various facilities on the base. Many dogs visit Pine Brook Care Center in Englishtown, NJ twice per month. The dogs visit with residents and provide comfort to them and their families. Our dogs also read with children at the Marlboro and East Brunswick libraries. In the past, several of our teams participated in a study through Rutgers University that investigated whether therapy dogs prove to be beneficial for those with autism.
Many Furry Angels are rescues from Adopt-a-Pet in Freehold. For rescue or training information please contact Sharon at 732-462-5184.
